Dependant on Machines

Written by , Posted in Cooking, Uncategorized

For all you busy moms out there, I have found an easy way to prepare #meals ahead of time. We have become #Dependant on Machines. Last year I purchased a 3-bowl Crockpot. This makes it easy for me being a working grandmother helping to raise grandkids. Start the Machines My morning starts with me starting all my machines going when I first get up every morning. Life is easier with the invention of these household machines. First I start the #coffee pots. Yes, that is right. I start one pot of regular super strong coffee for my husband. The second pot of coffee is the less strong decaf coffee just for me. Then I reach over to start the dishwasher that was loaded last night after #supper. Then by this time I have started the #washing machine. Time to prepare #breakfast, so the stove becomes the next on my list of machines to start. Being on a special diet means often making breakfast from scratch. What Meals for Today Next is to decide on the meals we will be eating throughout the day. I often have my meals planned out. For our supper meal of the day, the crockpot is invaluable. […]

Hobby Farm Life Ramblings

Written by , Posted in farming, Hobby Farming, Home and Garden, Uncategorized

Hobby Farm Life Ramblings for June 23rd. This is my account of things we had done so far on Sunnyside Lane Hobby Farm. During the Winter we added Horse manure to the garden plot. Yellow Straight Neck Squash have gone crazy. My goal was 52 qts for the year. I made that, gave away several buckets full to kids, my mother, and friends. We are still canning Squash today and will need to pick it again tomorrow. We planted Country Gentleman White corn, but it didn’t do well. I just discovered some of the ears have Smut on them. We had to burn them. We do plan to plant more for a second garden later. Did get some cornsilk to dry for my medicine cabinet. Stan went crazy on planting all the seeds I gathered and didn’t realize he had planted okra. It is not even a foot tall and is trying to bloom on us.Don’t think it is gonna do good either. Our Cabbage Collards are doing fine. I planted them thick and we have been eating what we thin out. I have even managed to can a few qts of them. Our Tomatoes are just beginning to make, […]

Canning Chicken Stock

Written by , Posted in Cooking, sustainable living, Uncategorized

After purchasing several 10 lbs bags of chicken thigh quarters last week, I have a lot of Chicken Stock. However, I don’t have a lot of room in my freezer. My idea is to can some of the stock to use during the winter months and for other dishes that call for chicken sotck. I have never done pressure canning before so this is a first time for me. I decided to visit grandma lynda on youtube to see how she does hers. Please watch along with me here:

It’s Christmas! Get Christmasy!

Written by , Posted in Uncategorized

Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of Christ. We all have traditions, but the decorating seems to be the trend everywhere. At Christmas time, many are thinking about all the decorations, the snow for some areas, the holiday themed dishes, Santa and of course, the Christmas crafts. But what Christmas is really all about is giving. Our children are the ones that light up the most during this favorite time of year. One of the greatest joys in life is to see their faces light up around the Christmas season. I will be posting a few Christmas crafts which is will put a smile on those cute little faces and will not hurt your pocket book either.   In many families, making Christmas ornaments and decorating the tree with them is a big part of their holiday tradition. So grab some safety scissors, colorful papers, sequins, ribbons and whatever else you want to throw in and have fun with your kids making your own reindeer, snowmen, and other decorative ornaments. A brown paper bag can easily be made into a reindeer. All you need is a pom pom for the nose, some construction paper for the antlers and a […]

Tuesday Morning Rambling Thought

Written by , Posted in farming, Foods, Uncategorized

The Weather is turning colder this evening. So that means we will be finishing the Hobby Farm winterizing of the plants and animals outside today. I have been bringing in firewood this morning and keeping a slow burning fire in the fireplace so it will keep the chill knocked off the air and make it easy to warm the house up tonight when the temps will be in the freezing zones. Going to have a nice big pot of Chicken and Rice with some fried cornbread and spiced blackberry juice for supper. I may even find an old black and white movie to watch and just snuggle on the couch in front of the fire with my husband. I am glad for the chance to just sit and talk about things with him now.

Thursday Morning Ramblings About Chihuahuas And Other Things

Written by , Posted in Uncategorized

This is my Thursday Morning Ramblings while I drink my coffee and clear my head to prepare for my work day ahead. This house is filthy. Got to take an hour or two to catch up on the house work and laundry today. Run my errands and do some shopping this morning before lunchtime. After lunch my husband is taking our son job hunting and our grandson to the doctor so I will have the entire afternoon to myself to work in peace. I am gonna start my supper this morning so it will be ready and waiting for them when they get home. They will have to just pop in the microwave to warm it up. Last night, we sold one more puppy and today a lady is coming to get the last little girl puppy. That will leave us three boy puppies to find new homes for them. I wish I could keep them all, but I am getting out of the Chihuahua business. I did not intend on becoming a Chihuahua and Pug mix breeder. I took them him as a rescue idea and have no papers on these dogs. I will be finding the adult dogs […]

Monday Morning on the Hobby Farm

Written by , Posted in Home and Garden, Uncategorized, Weather

Today on the hobby farm breakfast consisted of toast, banana jam and strong coffee. I am stealing a few minutes to check emails. Then it is off to feed 14 dogs, 20 or so Chickens/ducks, 2 rabbits and one Nanny goat. This morning on Sunnyside Lane Hobby Farm it is cooler weather at around 50 degrees F. However, it is not the weather that makes is so cold and gloomy today. There is a depression that hits everyone here this time of year. But this year it is worse. There are no children here laughing and singing. No reason to get up and make that special hot cocoa that Tristan calls poffee. No cheery jumpy affectionate Eve. No bossy motherly Vivian and no mischievous Alex. Today, we are moving out some of the children’s things and rearranging everything in the hopes they will be returning soon. I am struggling to hold on to hope. I will open the curtains, windows and doors as it heats up outside. Then our massive cleaning to get ready for remodeling will begin. We will also start preparing for the Holiday season and winter. First comes the cleaning. Everything will be washed starting with all bed […]
